Wire, Wonder & Wow Moments – Hanneke at Killeen Castle
There are workshops… and then there are the ones you’ll still be talking about years from now.
Last month, we had one of those magical moments. The Institute of Flowers brought the incredible Hanneke Frankema to Ireland — and what happened over two unforgettable days at Killeen Castle was pure floral magic.
We laughed, we learned, we got a bit emotional (yep, flowers do that), and we watched absolute floral perfection take shape right in front of our eyes.
A Castle Made for Creativity
Let’s talk about the setting. Killeen Castle is now officially the new home for our workshops for the next year — and honestly, it’s a florist’s dream. Huge open rooms, gorgeous natural light, total peace and quiet… a blank canvas just waiting to be flowerbombed.
We already have big plans. And after this weekend, we’re even more excited about what’s coming next.
The Iron Lady, Live in Action
Now, back to Hanneke. Known around the world as the “Iron Lady” for her breathtaking wirework, she didn’t just teach us — she blew our minds. From detailed techniques to large-scale drama, every piece she made had us on the edge of our seats.
She showed us how to think differently. How to use less product, more skill. How to create impact without waste. And she reminded us that in a world where flowers are getting more expensive, creativity matters more than ever.

This Is Just the Beginning
It’s hard to believe the IOF is only 8 months old. In that short time, we’ve hosted some of the biggest names in floristry, launched national training, and created a community where florists can truly grow.
This weekend with Hanneke felt like a turning point — a moment when we all realised just how far we can go when we learn from the best and support each other.
Next Up? The Florint World Cup!
And here’s the cherry on top — we now get to watch Hanneke step onto the Florint World Cup stage this August, in what will be the biggest show of her career. We got a front-row seat to her genius before the rest of the world sees it. How lucky were we?
We’ll be cheering her on all the way.
