Institute of Flowers (IOF) – Member Code of Conduct

🌿 1. Purpose

This Code of Conduct outlines the standards of behaviour expected from all members of the Institute of Flowers (IOF). It ensures that every florist and flower shop representing the IOF does so with integrity, professionalism, and respect for others.

It does not govern internal business operations, staffing structures, or creative standards — it governs conduct as a representative of the association.

🌼 2. Professional Representation

Members agree to:

  • Represent the IOF with dignity, courtesy, and professionalism at all times.

  • Uphold the reputation of the Irish floral industry through positive and respectful behaviour.

  • Use IOF membership status truthfully and responsibly in all communications.

🌸 3. Respectful Behaviour

The IOF is committed to a culture of respect. Members must:

  • Treat customers, colleagues, suppliers, and fellow members with courtesy and fairness.

  • Avoid any form of bullying, harassment, intimidation, or discriminatory behaviour.

  • Communicate in a respectful and constructive manner, both in person and online.

  • Resolve disagreements professionally and avoid public disputes that could damage the association’s reputation.

🌱 4. Integrity and Honesty

Members are expected to:

  • Conduct themselves with honesty in all professional interactions.

  • Provide accurate information when representing themselves or the IOF.

  • Avoid behaviour that could mislead, deceive, or undermine trust in the association.

🌍 5. Public Conduct and Social Media

Members agree to:

  • Ensure that public statements, posts, and online interactions reflect positively on the IOF.

  • Avoid defamatory, aggressive, or inflammatory comments about individuals, businesses, or the association.

  • Use social media responsibly when referencing IOF membership or activities.

🤝 6. Collegiality and Community

Members commit to:

  • Support a positive, collaborative environment within the Irish floral community.

  • Treat fellow members as peers, not competitors to be disparaged.

  • Share knowledge and contribute constructively to IOF events, discussions, and initiatives.

🛡️ 7. Zero Tolerance for Bullying or Harassment

The IOF maintains a strict zero‑tolerance stance on:

  • Bullying

  • Harassment

  • Discrimination

  • Aggressive or abusive behaviour

Any such behaviour — whether directed at customers, staff, suppliers, or fellow members — is considered a breach of this Code.

📜 8. Compliance and Accountability

  • Adherence to this Code is a condition of IOF membership.

  • Concerns or complaints may be reviewed by the IOF’s designated committee or governance body.

  • The IOF may issue guidance, warnings, or — in serious cases — suspend or revoke membership.

  • Members are encouraged to report serious breaches through appropriate channels.

🌟 9. Commitment to the IOF Values

By joining the IOF, members affirm their commitment to:

  • Professionalism

  • Respect

  • Integrity

  • Community

  • Positive representation of the Irish floral industry

💻 10. Webinar and Online Event Participation

To maintain a high standard of engagement and professionalism during IOF online events, members agree to:

  • Attend IOF webinars and virtual meetings with their camera turned on, except in cases of technical difficulty or accessibility needs.

  • Participate actively and respectfully in discussions, Q&A sessions, and group activities.

  • Avoid disruptive behaviour, multitasking that distracts from the session, or any conduct that diminishes the experience for others.

  • Ensure their display name clearly identifies their business or membership.

This requirement helps foster community, accountability, and meaningful interaction among members.
