Colour, Confidence, and Creativity: Highlights from Adele Roche’s Inspiring Webinar with the IOF

Last night, the Institute of Flowers (IOF) hosted a webinar that left us all energised, enlightened, and inspired. Adele Roche, renowned colour consultant and long-time supporter of the IOF, brought her expertise and passion to our screens in what can only be described as a masterclass in using colour with intention and impact.

From the moment the session began, Adele captured the audience with her warmth, clarity, and unmatched understanding of the emotional language of colour. Her message was simple yet profound: colour isn’t just about what we see—it’s about how we feel. And as florists, it’s our job to make people feel something with our work.

Throughout the session, Adele invited us to dig deeper—beyond trend reports or Pinterest boards—and ask: How do you want your clients to feel when they walk into a space? When they receive a bouquet? When they see their wedding flowers for the first time?

She unpacked colour layering and flow, explained how neutrals like greenery act as grounding anchors, and showed us how repetition and contrast can build rhythm and narrative within our work. The parallels she drew between floristry, fashion, and interior design gave florists a fresh lens through which to see their creativity—and their value.

Her approach wasn’t just creative—it was commercial. Adele reminded us that being confident in our colour choices is also about knowing our worth. The more considered and confident we are with our designs, the easier it becomes to communicate our pricing and value to clients.
