Gold for Irish Floristry: From Seed to Full Bloom Wins at Bloom 2026

The Institute of Flowers (IOF) is proud to announce that From Seed to Full Bloom: The Future of Floristry in Ireland was awarded Gold in the Floristry Competition at Bloom 2026.

Created by a community of florists from across Ireland, the installation was far more than a competition entry. It was a celebration of Irish floristry, a statement of identity, and a powerful representation of what can be achieved when an industry comes together with a shared vision.

Built around the IOF’s founding pillars — Learn, Grow, Bloom — the design showcased not only exceptional floral craftsmanship but also the strength, ambition, and collaborative spirit that exists throughout the Irish floristry industry.

For everyone who contributed to the piece, the Gold medal represents far more than competition success. It represents the growth of a profession, the power of education, and the future of floristry in Ireland.

A Story Rooted in Community

At the heart of the installation was a simple but powerful idea.

Every florist starts as a seed.

Some work in retail flower shops. Some specialise in weddings and events. Others work independently as freelancers or studio designers. Each has their own journey, their own style, and their own story. Individually they are unique, but together they form the vibrant ecosystem that is Irish floristry.

From Seed to Full Bloom transformed this idea into a large-scale floral artwork that told the story of a profession growing together.

The installation served as a visual representation of what the Institute of Flowers stands for and where Irish floristry is heading. Every element carried meaning. Every flower was chosen with intention. Every hand that contributed to the design belonged to the community it represented.

Built on Strong Foundations

At the base of the installation lay a hand-laid outline of the island of Ireland, carefully traced using real seeds.

This seed map formed the foundation of the entire piece, representing the individual florists who make up the Irish floristry community. Every county, every town, every shop, every studio, and every freelancer was symbolically represented within the landscape.

The seeds were not simply decorative. They represented potential.

Each seed symbolised a florist, a business, a career, and a story still unfolding.

Rising from this foundation was a structure of hand-shaped Irish willow. Bound and woven together, the willow represented the roots, discipline, and framework that support the profession. Just as roots provide strength and stability beneath the surface, the relationships between florists, growers, wholesalers, educators, and industry partners create the foundation upon which the industry continues to grow.

From its broad crown, the willow structure extended outward and upward, carrying the floral design into the surrounding space as a symbol of growth, ambition, and possibility.

The Voices of Irish Floristry

The flowers themselves became the voices of Ireland’s florists.

A dramatic palette of Red Naomi roses, gloriosa, calla lilies, astilbe, hanging amaranthus, craspedia, clematis, carnations, alstroemeria, orchids, hypericum and botanical materials was woven together to create a rich tapestry of colour, texture, movement, and emotion.

The selection reflected the diversity of the florists who created it.

Bold reds, vibrant pinks, striking purples, and cascading forms worked together to create a design that was both powerful and elegant. The composition celebrated creativity while demonstrating the technical skill, craftsmanship, and artistry that exists within the Irish floristry profession today.

A Collective Bloom

Perhaps the most important aspect of the installation was that it was never intended to showcase the work of one florist.

It was designed to showcase the work of many.

Retail florists, event florists, studio designers, freelancers, educators, and volunteers all contributed to the creation of the piece. Different skills, different experiences, and different perspectives came together to create something that no single individual could have achieved alone.

The collaborative process became part of the story.

The installation demonstrated exactly what the Institute of Flowers was created to do: bring people together, encourage learning, foster relationships, and strengthen the industry through community.

Learn. Grow. Bloom.

The three pillars of the Institute of Flowers were woven throughout the design.

Learn through education, mentorship, and the sharing of knowledge.

Grow through collaboration, opportunity, and professional development.

Bloom through creativity, confidence, and excellence.

From Seed to Full Bloom captured these principles in physical form, transforming them into a living representation of Irish floristry’s journey and future potential.

A Gold Medal for a Community

While the installation stood proudly on the competition floor, this achievement belongs to far more than the piece itself.

The Gold medal belongs to every florist who volunteered their time, every educator who shared their expertise, every sponsor who supported the vision, and every member who continues to champion the future of floristry in Ireland.

It belongs to a community.

From Seed to Full Bloom was created to demonstrate the strength, creativity, and potential of Irish floristry. Winning Gold was a recognition of that vision, but more importantly, it was recognition of the people behind it.

The future of Irish floristry is not built by one florist, one business, or one organisation.

It is built by all of us.

And together, we are only just beginning.

Learn. Grow. Bloom.
